Some people of middle age may think of lithium as a medication administered to people in mental institutions to keep them calm. Actually, it is, however, it is not in this form. As with many natural substances, which lithium is, it is a mineral, the medical profession has "tweaked" it so they can patent it. Since you can't patent a natural substance, they have to manipulate it to enable them to charge outlandish prices for something that is much less expensive to manufacture. The form used on mental patients is called Lithium Carbonate which must be taken in massive doses to achieve any benefit and at that dose level, there are many side effects.
This lithium is only 4.9 mg., an extremely low dose, but very effective in gently calming someone who is anxious, hyper, or the like.
Recent tests have shown remarkable results in clinical trials with Alzheimier's patients. It seems that in the tests performed in England, patients deterioriated much more slowly and some even improved using Lithium. The most remarkable thing was that the Lithium outpeformed the usual Alzheimer's medications!
Lithium has also shown good results in Parkinson's patients as well. It slows the progress of the disease in many of the trials.
Any person over the age of 50 should be taking Lithium to help preserve their brains. Lithium seems to be able to keep the synapses functioning much better and people who take a minimum of two 4.9 pills a day are more alert and have a sharper memory. The brain preserving capacity of Lithium has not been fully explored, but with the extremly low dosing, there are no side effects, therefore, well worth taking to keep your brain healthy.
Lithium is even more effective, especially with someone who has emotional or addiction problems, when taken with 5-Hydroxy L-Tryptopahn (5-HTP). Dr. Lynda uses both as part of her addiction therapy program.
